Coimbatore district collector opens hospice facility for urban homeless

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore district collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated a newly constructed second floor at the hospice care unit of the Shelter for Urban Homeless in Kempatty Colony in Coimbatore on Monday.
The facility was built by the NGO Helping Hearts in collaboration with the Coimbatore Corporation and with the support of BOSCH under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

M Ganesh, founder of Helping Hearts, said the 2,500 sq ft facility with a capacity of 25 beds would enable them to provide enhanced end-of-life care. It was built at cost of around Rs 60 lakh
"This expansion ensures that more individuals experiencing homelessness receive compassion, dignity and support they deserve during their final days. The addition of this new floor allows us to extend our reach and improve the quality of life for more people in need," he added.
A corporation official said, "This addition will enhance our ability to provide compassionate care to our community's most vulnerable."

Mayor R Ranganayaki, corporation commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran, centre head of Bosch Coimbatore Naved Narayan, and deputy mayor R Vetriselvan also participated in the inauguration ceremony.
