RUDRAPUR: Uttarakhand chief minister
Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the second day of the 5th State Olympic Games at Manoj Sarkar Sports Stadium in Udham Singh Nagar’s district headquarters in Rudrapur on Saturday.
CM Dhami was welcomed by a grand reception by a national cadet corps band and traditional Choliya dancers. He was joined by Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt and was felicitated by officials of the Uttarakhand Olympic Association (UOA).
Following a march-past presentation, CM Dhami addressed the gathering and said, “The State Olympic Games is a great opportunity for athletes to prepare for the national games which will be held in the state next year.
We will soon host a Khel Kumbh, where players from various sports will be able to showcase their talent."
He emphasised the govt’s efforts to promote sports as a career and that athletes excelling at national and international levels would be rewarded with cash prizes.
CM Dhami also inspected ongoing construction at the stadium and reviewed facilities for athletes, calling for further improvements.
"We are focused on building new playgrounds and upgrading existing ones to meet national standards. A Rs. 264 crore women’s sports college will be established in Champawat. A sports university will also be set up to provide world-class training to our athletes,” he added.
