Haridwar: A former BJP MLA from the Jawalapur constituency in Haridwar district, Suresh Rathore, has lodged a complaint against a woman party worker, accusing her of blackmail.
The woman, identified as Urmila Snawar, had recently posted a video online claiming that Rathore was her husband. She had previously shared videos and photos with Rathore on her social media accounts.
Rathore said that Urmila approached him at his Bahadrabad office about two years ago, informing him of a dispute with her husband.
"Later, she introduced herself as a Bollywood actress and requested me to make a film and took my photos and videos. Thereafter, she started blackmailing me and demanded Rs 25 lakh," he said. In the FIR, the former MLA claimed that he had given Rs 16 lakh to Urmila so far.
SHO of Jwalapur police station, Pradeep Bisht, said, "We have registered a case against Urmila under BNS sections 308 (extortion) and 351 (criminal intimidation). Further investigation is on."
