NEW DELHI: The body of Deepak Kumar Meena, a civil services aspirant from Rajasthan's Dausa, was found hanging from a tree in a forested area in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar, police reported on Monday.
Meena had been missing for several days before his decomposed body was discovered near a coaching institute library on September 20.
Police suspect that Meena, who had moved to Delhi in July to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (
UPSC) mains exam, may have died by suicide.
"CCTV cameras have been checked and it is suspected to be a case of suicide. A probe is underway," a senior police officer stated.
Meena's father, CL Meena, informed the police that his son used to call home every evening. The family last heard from him on September 10. When he did not contact them from September 11 to 13, CL Meena traveled to Delhi and started searching for him.
Upon reaching his son's PG accommodation, CL Meena learned from his son's roommates that he had not returned for two days. He then filed a missing person complaint at the Mukherjee Nagar police station.
During the search, police found Meena's body in a forested area near the institute where he attended classes. Authorities believe he may have gone to the forest after class. Meena’s bag was also found hanging from the same tree. No suicide note was discovered.
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
