NEW DELHI: A DTC bus driver was allegedly assaulted and abducted by a group of individuals in the vicinity of Safdarjung Hospital in southeast Delhi on Sunday.
A video of the incident surfaced on social media, sparking outrage. X users condemned the abduction while pointing out how the buses in the city were recklessly driven, causing frequent accidents.
The driver in this case, identified as Ramgopal, aged 45, was operating bus number DL1PC8350 on Route 611, from Mayur Vihar to Dhaula Kuan when the incident occurred.
According to police, at 7am, a Wagon-R car tried to overtake the bus, while incessantly blowing its horn.
The car's driver, Mohammed Suhail, accompanied by his brother Mohammed Sharik, got down from their vehicle and forcefully entered the bus, and assaulted Ramgopal. They then dragged him out of the bus and coerced him into their car.
The assailants, including Israt and Akbar Ali, took Ramgopal to a petrol pump situated at INA Market, where they refueled before proceeding towards India Gate. Throughout the journey, Ramgopal was allegedly subjected to repeated assaults. Following Ramgopal's pleas to be taken to police station, he was ultimately brought to PS Safdarjung Enclave.
Police have registered a case under various sections and arrested the accused, who are residents of Civil Lines in north Delhi.
