New Delhi: Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Tuesday wrote to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (
MCD) commissioner Ashwani Kumar about the failure of waste collection agencies to carry out door-to-door collection of garbage across the city.
"I have been receiving several complaints from councillors across all MCD wards," Oberoi wrote to Kumar, demanding answers from him by 5pm on Thursday on the extent of the problem and whether he was aware of the issues being faced by Delhiites.
She said that during her visits to Lado Sarai, Madipur, Vikaspuri, Patel Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri, Mahavir Enclave, Mohan Garden and Bindapur, she found no door-to-door collection of waste, leading to the accumulation of garbage at several points.
An MCD official said, "The mayor is well aware of the challenges in solid waste management in Delhi. The information sought will be sent to her. She has been requested more than once to use her good offices to get MCD's dues released from Delhi govt." TNN
