Guwahati: A govt official was held by the
Assam directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption on Saturday after being caught in the act of allegedly accepting a bribe in his office located in Kamrup district. The purpose of the bribe was to facilitate the processing of the complainant’s bills.
Surendra Kumar, ADGP (Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption), shared on X that Subodh Das, the sub-divisional officer of the territorial building subdivision of the public works and national highway department (PWD&NH), was taken into custody following his acceptance of the bribe from the complainant in his office situated in Mirza, Kamrup district.
The bribe was intended to expedite the processing of the complainant’s bills.
“Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Subodh Das, Sub Divisional Officer, Territorial Building Sub Division, PWD&NH, in his office at Mirza, Distt-Kamrup after he accepted bribe from the complainant for processing his bills,” the directorate posted on X.
The arrest of Das marked the 51st trap set by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption this year in their efforts to combat corruption. On Sept 2, the directorate had arrested an executive engineer from the irrigation department for accepting a bribe, marking their 50th such arrest in 2024.
