Couple seeks divorce, HC suggests mediation through Koppal pontiff
Koppal: The Dharwad bench of Karnataka high court has advised a couple seeking divorce to resolve their differences through mediation by Sri Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji of Gavi Mutt, Koppal.
A video of Justice Krishna S Dixit offering this bit of advice during hearing of the divorce petition on Wednesday has gone viral on social media.
Justice Dixit counselled the husband and wife, saying: "Problems are common in any marriage.

However, it is not right for a couple to separate by focusing [only] on [these] issues."
The judge further advised the couple: "The road is not straight up. There will be twists and turns. We take care of all of those and proceed carefully. So is family. There are disagreements and resentments, [but] you must go beyond that and get along with each other."
He also advised the couple to seek help from a psychiatrist if there are psychological issues. The couple informed the court they had already consulted a psychiatrist, but found no solution. The judge then advised them to seek guidance from a swamiji.
While the husband expressed his willingness to approach Siddalingeshwar Swamiji in Gadag, the wife preferred Sri Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji of Gavi Mutt, Koppal.
When the judge himself suggested Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji, comparing him to Swami Vivekananda, the couple agreed to go by his choice.

The court then ordered the relevant information to be sent to Shri Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji via post and email and directed the couple to meet the pontiff in Koppal on September 22.
Swamiji's assistant Sharanu Shettar later told TOI the mutt was aware of the court's direction.
