Gadag: The lack of proper bus facilities to Bengaluru from Gadag has left the people who often travel to Bengaluru irked.
There are no AC or non-AC sleeper buses to Bengaluru from Gadag now, which has forced people to travel via ordinary buses to the capital city. This has caught the attention of former Indian cricketer,
Sunil Joshi.
Joshi tweeted on his X account that the Bengaluru to Gadag Volvo bus had been cancelled without any reason, and also requested chief minister Siddaramaiah to look into this matter and do the needful.
He also requested minister HK Patil and transport minister Ramalinga Reddy to resume the Volvo bus service between Bengaluru and Gadag.
After this posting, there has been a debate on social media about the lack of proper bus facilities between Bengaluru and Gadag. Many netizens have expressed their anger against NWKRTC authorities for not providing proper bus facilities to the capital city and for forcing people to travel by ordinary buses.
Sources said that the Gadag NWKRTC division was running two non-AC sleeper buses to Bengaluru from Gadag, but the service of these buses was withdrawn two months back, and no efforts were made to introduce any new buses to the capital city. “We had to depend on ordinary buses or travel to Hubballi to catch sleeper or AC buses, which is causing a big inconvenience to the general public,” said Subhas, Chandranna, and others. They demanded that authorities should introduce AC and non-AC sleeper buses to Bengaluru from Gadag soon.
Sources said the service of a Volvo bus was stopped due to poor response from the public, which caused a loss to the division.
Devaraj, Gadag divisional controller, told TOI, “We used to run two non-AC sleeper buses to Bengaluru, but we had to stop the service of these buses following complaints of leakages during the rainy season. We have also requested the NWKRTC Central office, Hubballi, to provide two ‘Pallakki’ buses, which are non-AC sleeper buses, to Bengaluru.”
“We are now in the process of repairing non-AC sleeper buses which were stopped following leakage complaints. In the next 4-5 days, we will introduce these buses to Bengaluru. We are hopeful that our division will be able to get 'Pallakki' buses to run between Bengaluru and Gadag in the next few days, and we will also try to put pressure on the authorities to introduce a Volvo bus service,” he said.
