On receiving requests to extend the drive for other consumers to clear their dues, the civic body has extended the last date of the scheme till Sept 6.
IMC officials said that around 1.88 lakh water connections in the city owed Rs 580 crore to IMC when the scheme was launched. So, they had set a target of Rs 100 crore revenue collection in the 25-day-long campaign. To encourage compliance, IMC teams visited households to personally appeal to residents to clear their dues and avail benefits of the scheme.
The civic body have received a positive response so far, with many citizens coming forward to settle their outstanding bills that crossed the mark of Rs 32 crore. But it failed to achieve the set target of Rs 100 crore. Now, IMC has made an appeal to consumers to clear their dues of water tax in the next 10 days, else legal action will be taken against the defaulters.
