Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Tuesday sealed over half a dozen basements in buildings that have been illegally converting parking spaces into commercial ventures. The action was taken in Zones 11 13, 15, 16, 19 and 22 of the IMC.
"Basements in buildings of Maruti Suzuki showroom and TVS showroom, both located near Geeta Bhavan Square, 12 B Ratlam Kothi, Jain Auto Service, and SNG Hospital were sealed.
These establishments were found to have unauthorized construction within the designated parking areas," IMC commissioner Shivam Verma said.
Also, basements in buildings at 191 Transport Nagar and Mangal Nagar were sealed for similar violations, he said.
Ahead of restarting the drive of sealing basements being used for purposes other than parking, IMC had given a time limit of a month, till Sept 15, to all such property to ensure the designated use of the parking spaces in their buildings.
Senior IMC officials said around 1000 such properties were identified and notices were issued to the owners/occupants to ensure that the basements are only be used for parking purposes.
"We have made it clear that such sealing action will continue against any property found to be misusing basement parking spaces for commercial purposes," the commissioner emphasized.
Owner fails to pay Rs 12.3L property tax, land sealed

IMC additional commissioner (revenue) Narendra Nath Pandey said that one Ravishankar had failed to clear Rs 12.35 lakh property tax. So, the land in Bhicholi Mardana at Survey Number 287/6 was sealed. Before this, the owner was served multiple notices to clear the due.
