Jaipur: Jaisinghpura Khor police have solved the
murder case of a 35-year-old man whose body was found on the roadside five days ago.
Police on Tuesday arrested the victim’s friend, who was found to be having an affair with the victim’s wife and viewed him as an obstacle to their relationship.
The accused,
Rafeeq Ahmed alias Sonu (31), killed Irfan (35) by crushing his head with a stone after making him drink alcohol, police said.
Irfan was a labourer. Rafeeq, originally from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was residing in the city’s Subhash Chowk area.
The murder occurred on the morning of Sept 17 at a vacant plot in Lakda ki Dhani near Jaisinghpura Khor. Irfan’s body was located with his face brutally smashed, making identification initially difficult. A blood-stained stone was found near the body.
Additional DCP (North) Ranu Sharma said, “While we were trying to ascertain the body’s identity, family members of the victim approached the police with a missing person report. When we showed them the body, they identified him.”
Police utilised a dog squad and forensic team to gather evidence and reviewed CCTV footage from around the crime scene. Footage from a nearby liquor store led them to the suspect.
Rafeeq and the victim were seen on camera purchasing liquor. Rafeeq was detained and questioned, during which he confessed to the murder and revealed his
illicit relationship with Irfan’s wife.
Rafeeq is said to have confessed to the police that he saw Irfan as an obstacle in his relationship with Irfan’s wife. In order to remove this obstacle, he allegedly lured Irfan to a secluded spot in Jaisinghpura Khor. After purchasing alcohol, he led Irfan to the deserted area.
