Shamli: Baghpat police solved a blind murder case after reviewing 1,000 CCTV footage and arrested a 22-year-old man for the crime.
The incident took place on Aug 28, when Shanu Tyagi (27) was found murdered in his car. Tyagi, a resident of Mohammadpur Azampur village in Hapur district, was employed on a contract basis at the Power Corporation and had come to Baghpat for some work.
Tyagi, driving his friend's SUV, stopped at Sarai Mod to inquire about the route to Pilana when the accused Ujjwal alias Balle, under pretence of giving directions, took a lift in the vehicle.

He then drew a knife to commit robbery. When Tyagi resisted, Ujjwal stabbed him in the chest and looted Rs 4,000, before fleeing the scene. The victim's father had registered a case of murder at Singhawali Ahir police station.
On Tuesday, Baghpat SP Arpit Vijayvargiya, said, "Our five teams reviewed footage from around 1,000 CCTV cameras, spanning from Hapur to Baghpat district, to solve the blind murder case. After obtaining crucial leads from the footage, Ujjwal, a resident of Fatehpur Putthi village in Binauli area, and a daily wager, was arrested. The murder weapon, a knife, was also recovered from him."
The SP has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the teams that solved the blind murder case.
Notably, due to the slow progress in the case, a panchayat of the Tyagi community was held in Hapur district about two weeks ago, during which they threatened a protest. However, officials assured them of prompt action.
