Jaipur: Apprehending that the illegal use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes has considerably increased in the city and its suburbs, the district supply team of the Jaipur and Jaipur Rural District Commissionerate have plans to conduct massive raids at restaurants and eateries before Diwali.
Speaking to TOI, the district supply officer (II) of Jaipur Trilok Chand Meena said that the govt has information that most eateries, especially the ones operating from city roads, are using domestic LPG for commercial purposes.
“Such practice may lead to a shortfall of cylinders in households. We have already conducted a few raids in the last few months and seized several empty and filled cylinders that were being used for commercial purposes,” added Meena. The district administration has decided to conduct surprise raids before Diwali, and any establishment found to use domestic LPG for commercial use will be prosecuted under Gas Cylinder Rules, 2016 and under the Liquified Petroleum Gas Act 2000.
“Domestic LPG refills are distributed to the public at a subsidised rate, and they are meant for only domestic use. Using this for commercial use to make a profit is a crime. We are also keeping a watch on the agents who are helping them to procure these domestic cylinders,” said Meena. tnn
