Kanpur: The five-litre empty gas cylinder found placed on the railway track at Prempur railway station, between Kanpur Central and Fatehpur on Sunday, had not been in use for the past 15 days, the initial investigation by the forensic team has revealed.
The team has submitted its report to the police, while other agencies such as ATS and the Intelligence Bureau are also gathering clues about the incident.

"The brand name, ‘Magic' on the cylinder suggests it was made locally. We are trying to ascertain from where it was purchased," said DCP East Shrawan Kumar Singh. So far, 12 persons have been detained for questioning on suspicion, said Singh.
Sources said different teams have visited several villages such Dalpatpur, Prempur, Puranpur, Baragaon, Sarsaul, Maharajpur, Ruma, and Narwal for clues.
While there are no CCTV cameras near the incident site, the footage from other areas are being examined. The police have also inspected houses in the vicinity of the incident site, discovering cylinders in approximately 20-25 homes. Instructions have been issued to RPF, GRP, staff, and other officers to remain alert, and officials from various departments have been advised to maintain vigilance in their respective areas. They have been directed to remove railway scrap to prevent miscreants from using it for any sabotage.
Commissioner of police Akhil Kumar has tasked additional commissioner of police (law and order) Harish Chander and DCP East Shrawan Kumar Singh with uncovering the conspiracy behind the attempted derailment of the freight train.
