Kanpur: Four suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old professional drummer, who was beaten to death at Shastri Chowk area of the city on Friday. Efforts are underway to locate the one remaining accused.
Vikas, resident of Mahadev Nagar Basti, Tanlal Nagar, is a notorious drug-peddler with a criminal record at Govind Nagar police station.
Currently he is in jail. His brothers, Vikram and Vivek, also have many criminal cases against them.
The notorious criminal and his brothers repeatedly assaulted their neighbours, Sahil and his sisters Muskan, Moni, Soni, and Mohini. Last year, Vikas and his brothers were imprisoned for attacking Sahil with an axe. Vikram and Vivek were released from jail 15 days prior to the incident.
According to Muskan, she and her sisters have to give evidence in court on September 24. Since their release, the accused had been threatening them to refrain from testifying in the court. When they refused, the accused forcibly entered their house and assaulted them on Thursday night.
On Friday, Muskan and her 30-year-old brother Sahil went to the Govind Nagar police station to lodge a complaint. While she and Sahil were returning from the police station, Vivek, Vikram and their aides Akshay and Vishal waylaid them near the CTI Canal Shastri Chowk substation, and later attacked Sahil with iron rods and sharp weapons, leaving him unconscious. When Muskan attempted to intervene, the attackers tore her clothes. Alerted by local residents, the police rushed profusely bleeding Sahil to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital, but he had already succumbed to his injuries.
On receiving information about the murder, the DCP and ACP, accompanied by police force, reached the crime scene. The police initiated an examination of nearby CCTV footage and began investigating the videos. Inspector-in-charge Prashant Mishra of Govind Nagar police station said, "Suspects Vishal, Vikram, Akshay, and Vivek have been arrested, while the search for another accused continues."
