Kochi: The opposition in Thrikkakara has accused municipal officials of negligence for failing to disburse the Rs 50 lakh allocated for relief efforts in Wayanad last month. Opposition councillors pointed out that the delay persists despite agreements made in the council meeting in Aug regarding the donation of funds.
"It is sad that municipality officials have not kept their word even in the face of a tragedy," said opposition leader M K Chandrababu, adding that the councillors will be forced to
protest if speedy action is not taken regarding the matter.
Municipality chairperson Radhamani Pillai said that municipal officials are occupied with official responsibilities related to Onam. "Although we are not celebrating Onam, we are supporting some rituals in connection to the festival at Thrikkakara temple which require administrative sanctions. Officials have been working to receive nod from govt," said Pillai.
Pillai also mentioned that a council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, and she expressed hope that the local body would be able to clear the funds without further delay.
