Kottayam: A migrant worker, who was injured in an explosion in the room he resided, succumbed to the injuries at Ranni in Pathanamthitta district on Monday.
Ganesh Gaur, 28, a native of Udalguri district in
Assam, suffered serious burn injuries in the explosion around 9.15pm on Sunday.
He was initially admitted to Ranni taluk hospital and later shifted to Kottayam medical college hospital.
He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in the ICU.
The explosion occurred in the room on upper floor of the building located in front of the head post office near the police station. The room door splinters fell on top of a building 50m away and on the road. Though the gas cylinder and stove in the room remained intact, police suspect a gas leakage caused the explosion.
Ganesh, who worked at a tyre shop in Ranni, had given a statement to police that the explosion occurred when he lit the stove to cook food. He was alone in the room at the time of incident. Police personnel rushed to the spot immediately as the station was nearby. The bomb squad, forensic experts and dog squad arrived soon after. Police have launched a probe.
