NEW DELHI: Five wagons of an empty goods train derailed at New Maynaguri railway station in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday morning, according to a Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official.
The incident occurred at 6.20am, and no injuries were reported.

Following the derailment, several trains were diverted to other routes as this route is crucial for connecting the northeastern states with the rest of the country.

The derailment caused damage to overhead electricity cables and a few poles.
Restoration efforts are underway, and the NFR official expects train movement through New Maynaguri to resume by noon. Senior officials have arrived at the scene and will conduct an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment.
Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says on train derailment and accident incidents, 'Railway administration is alert and we are in touch with all the state governments, state DGPs, Home Secretaries. NIA is also involved and action will taken against those involved in any kind of accidents.'
