Kozhikode: Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulema's mouthpiece has made a scathing attack on chief minister
Pinarayi Vijayan over the allegations levelled by MLA P V Anvar against top police officers and Vijayan's political secretary and said that he was eager to stand with those who face the allegations.
The editorial of Suprabhatham said that Vijayan was more interested in looking at the political DNA of the Left MLA who had said that many people standing around the king were naked.
"Instead of carrying out a proper investigation into Anvar's allegations, the overenthusiasm shown to justify and defend the favoured ADGP (M R Ajith Kumar) would put not only the govt but also the ruling front in the dock," it said.
According to the editorial, the chief minister and the party secretary initially tried to give the impression to the public that they were taking Anvar's complaints seriously, but in the recent press conference, the CM has categorically stated that they are not with the victims but the hunters. Following this, the CPM also issued a statement distancing itself from Anvar.
Though Anvar got startled after the CM and the party disowned him, the govt and the party should not forget that the allegations levelled by Anvar remain active in public domain.
"Why is the chief minister showing such haste to protect an ADGP, even by silencing allies," the editorial asked.
It added that the chief minister stated in the press conference that strict action would be taken if there were any lapses on the part of the police and at the same time added that attempts to undermine the morale of the force would not be tolerated.
"This has been the chief minister's police policy ever since assuming power, even in cases of custodial deaths, Maoist encounter deaths and UAPA arrests. The same refrain of "don't destroy the morale of the police" is now being used to shield Ajith Kumar, who faces various allegations including corruption and illicit wealth accumulation. The chief minister didn't find anything unusual in the ADGP meeting RSS leaders Dattatreya Hosabale and Ram Madhav. Does this mean that there would be no issue if his political secretary, principal secretary or the DGP meet with Mohan Bhagwat or K Surendran?" the editorial asked.
