DINDIGUL: A second-year nursing student from Kerala was found abandoned near Dindigul railway station on Monday after allegedly being kidnapped and sexually assaulted by an unidentified gang in Theni.
According to police sources, the young woman was found at Dindigul railway station in the morning. When government railway police (GRP) personnel approached her, she stated that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a group of men before being left at the station.
She was subsequently admitted to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital, and her family was contacted.
The student, who is studying at a private nursing college in Theni, was reportedly abducted from a bus stop close to the college. Dindigul town police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Dindigul district superintendent of police Dr A Pradeep told TOI that statements have been taken from the student, and an FIR is being registered. "We are coordinating with the Theni police and probing all angles," he added. Special teams have been formed, and police are examining CCTV footage and mobile phone data to trace the suspects.
