MEERUT: A jeweller’s manager and four others were arrested for staging a jewellery robbery in the Nangal area of Saharanpur on Friday.
Meerut-based jeweller Priyank Agarwal informed the police about the supposed robbery, stating that four unidentified men intercepted a car in which his manager, Satyam Sharma, was traveling. They allegedly looted diamond jewellery of undetermined value while Sharma was returning from Ambala.
The car’s windows were broken, and the occupants sustained minor injuries.
Police found discrepancies in the accounts given by the driver and Sharma. Sharma later confessed that he and the driver had staged the loot. The jewellery was recovered from a relative of Sharma in Meerut, and all five persons involved were arrested.
Saharanpur SSP Rohit Sajwan said, “Satyam Sharma and driver Tarun Saini, both employees of Priyank Agarwal, often travelled to different cities and states carrying jewellery samples to fetch orders. In this case, they took their employer’s vehicle to a hotel in Ambala with jewellery. On July 3, Sharma’s brother-in-law Himanshu took the jewellery and Rs 50,000 and travelled to Meerut by taxi. Their accomplices, Prince and Kanwarpal, helped stage the robbery, tying up Sharma and Saini and injuring them to make the heist look real. During the investigation, inconsistencies in their stories led to the recovery of the jewellery and the arrest of all five accused within eight hours.”
