Madikeri: More than 3,000 runners from different parts of the state participated in the Monsoon Marathon, which was organised by the Gonikoppal KALS education institute on Sunday.
Former international athlete Ashwini Nachappa, director of KALS School, which organised the marathon, said that it was a pleasure to see more runners participating this time than in the past two years.
She said that this is an example for the next generation that everyone is maintaining physical fitness even these days, without any age barrier.
The competition was organised under the direction of Reeth Abraham, a native of Kodagu and a former international track & field athlete. Head of the school Maneyapanda Datha Karumbayya was present.
Purushottam (first), Raghuvaran (second), and Ananth (third) from Mysuru won the marathon event in the men's category.
Nitin, Pratap, and Mallikarjun got first, second, and third respectively in the 10-km race. BG Burman, Mamata, and Rashika stood first, second, and third respectively in the women's off-marathon competition.
In the 10-km marathon competition, Babli Guruja, Chondamma and Rani secured first, second, and third positions respectively.
Tata Company, Federal Bank and Lopamudra Hospital promoted the event.
