Nagpur: The remains of
Priya Bagde, alias Priya Gluck, aged around 25 years, were exhumed from a desolate place around 3km from Ramtek after her paramour, 57-year-old Mahesh Wadaskar, showed police where he had buried the body on August 17. Priya had died under mysterious circumstances at a resort in Ramtek, following which Wadaskar had buried her body, destroyed her cellphones, and abandoned her two-wheeler.
Police believe there could be an issue of multiple relationships involving Priya and Wadaskar.
Apart from a 72-year-old Londoner, Priya is also known to have had regular communication with a man from Sangli. The cops are probing these links of Priya and her relationships with these men, which may have led to complications in her relationship with Wadaskar, who finally apparently decided to bump her off.
Wadaskar, who is yet to reveal how he killed Priya, was arrested for murder by Mankapur police on Wednesday and produced before the court to seek his custody for interrogation. The court granted Mankapur police Wadaskar’s custody till September 15. He has so far remained firm on his stand that Priya consumed poison at his resort on the intervening night of August 16 and 17.
Wadaskar, a married man in an illicit relationship with Priya, claimed to have transported Priya’s body in his car and buried it to destroy the evidence. Priya’s kin had first lodged a missing complaint, but later police registered a case of kidnapping against unidentified persons on August 24. The cops have now added charges of murder in the same case.
Police said Priya was keen to cohabit with Wadaskar as his wife. Since he was already married, Wadaskar was not ready to accept Priya as his wife. Sources said there was growing bitterness between Priya and Wadaskar. Around a year ago, Priya also had an abortion. Wadaskar has been denying his involvement in the murder but also said that he was being repeatedly harassed by the victim to formalise their relationship and settle down.
Zonal DCP Rahul Madane said the post-mortem and forensic reports could suggest the manner in which Priya was murdered. “The police had managed to find a clue about Wadaskar’s involvement as Priya’s cellphones had been switched off after reaching his hotel in Ramtek. The mobile phone tower analysis had suggested Priya and Wadaskar were together on August 16 and 17, which had triggered our doubt about the accused,” said Madane.
