Nashik: Two people, including a woman, died in separate
road accidents in the city between Friday and Sunday. A 69-year-old woman, Premlatabai Bedmutha, was killed in the Panchavati area, while a 50-year-old man, Namdeo Sonawane, died in the Bhagur area of Deolali Camp.
In the Panchavati accident, police said that Bedmutha, riding as a pillion, was struck by a container truck around 10:30pm on Sunday on Lamkhede Road.
The truck driver collided with a pick-up, a hatchback, and the scooter carrying Bedmutha. She sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them. The truck driver fled the scene without notifying anyone. The Panchavati police have registered a case for causing death due to negligence and plan to arrest the truck driver soon.
In the Deolali Camp incident, Namdeo Sonawane died after an oncoming motorcycle collided with the bike he was riding around 8pm on Friday on Nanegaon Road. Sonawane and a pillion rider, along with two individuals on the other motorcycle, were injured in the crash. Sonawane succumbed to his injuries the same day. The pillion rider on Sonawane's bike, Dattu Bhagwat, filed a complaint against the biker responsible for the accident on Monday.
