Raipur: Residents of the Yellow Building in Suraj Nagar BSUP of the capital city have reported nine cases of jaundice, believed to be caused by contaminated borewell water. Several people in the area have fallen ill after consuming the water.
Meanwhile, in the nearby Adarsh Sankalp Society, residents of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have faced a typhoid outbreak.
It has been reported that water from a community water ATM was found to contain insects, leading to five or six people being diagnosed with typhoid, said a resident of the colony.
In response, a medical team has been dispatched to the affected areas. Doctors are conducting door-to-door surveys in Suraj Nagar to identify more jaundice cases.
Simultaneously, health camps are being set up in Adarsh Sankalp Society to collect blood samples and monitor residents for symptoms of typhoid.
The situation in both areas is being closely monitored as authorities work to control the spread of these waterborne diseases.
Advices have been issued for people to follow the precautionary guidelines during this season when swine flu and dengue cases are being reported. The emphasis is on surveillance programs so that the spread of the disease can be prevented.
Mentioning the symptoms, it is said muscle, joint pain, red marks on the body, high fever, headache, vomiting, and dizziness could be seen among patients. For prevention, one should make sure that
contaminated water should not be collected, manholes, septic tanks, and clogged drains are kept in check, and mosquito repellent should be applied. Early symptoms should not be ignored and if one suffers all these symptoms they should contact the doctor.
Small children, pregnant women, and elderly people are most likely to get sick from flu and hence need to be aware and take precautionary measures accordingly.
