Raipur: Two men gangraped a 30-year-old woman from Jharkhand who worked as a labourer in Jashpur and then murdered her with sticks and dumped her body in a ditch.
Her body was recovered on Sept 18 by locals, which was followed by a probe and the two accused being arrested. One of the accused, police said, was the woman's beau.
The incident took place in Jashpurnagar's Bhavri village where the woman's body was found in a ditch and locals raised an alarm.
Police investigation revealed that the woman was a resident of Jharkhand and was working as a labourer in Jashpur, when she came in touch with one of the accused, who pulled her into a relationship.
Police investigation said that the two men Rajendra Minj, 30 and Sanjay Ram Bhagat, 30, had gone to woman's house on Sep 17 night and drank together. As per the accused's confessional statement, the woman started demanding money from her boyfriend but he refused.
They later went on bike together for an outing and the men raped her at an isolated location, with an intention to later kill her.
The woman was married and reportedly needed money from the accused.
In his confession statement, the accused said that the woman was pressurizing him to give her money, which infuriated him and he decided to kill her.
The accused stated that he involved one of his friends in the plan. The two men beat her with sticks leading to her death. Then they bludgeoned her face using a huge rock and threw her body in the 30-feet-deep canal's ditch.
Jashpur police have handed over the body to the family in Jharkhand and the accused were arrested. Further investigations were on.
