NCW member slams govt for defunct women’s commission
Dumka: Mamta Kumari, National Commission for Women (NCW) member, on Tuesday criticised the state govt for failing to operationalise state women commission, which has been lying defunct since 2021 since the term of its chairperson ended.
She was in Dumka to attend a public hearing at the Indoor stadium, where women victims of sexual offences registered their grievances and received appropriate instructions from administrative stakeholders.

Kumari said that Jharkhand has been witnessing crimes against women. “Under the circumstances, the state govt must constitute a state-level commission for women,” she said.
During Tuesday's public hearing, the NCW bench addressed a total of 36 cases of alleged atrocities against women from four districts: Dumka, Godda, Pakur, and Sahibganj.
Kumari said, “Total 30 cases were already been registered with the NCW as six new applicants also turned up seeking our intervention to ensure them justice."
She further added that the NCW would review whether the directions issued to the police and other stakeholders were fully implemented.
