Thiruvananthapuram:
Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who was sworn in as the President of Sri Lanka on Monday, had visited the state capital in February as part of the programme organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, ministry of external affairs.
Dissanayake who was an MP and leader of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had visited the Technopark and held discussion with industries minister P Rajeeve.
During his visit to the Technopark, he had said that "Sri Lanka can follow the growth strategies of Technopark and collaborate with IT companies from India to burgeon its nascent IT sector to benefit the island nation."
While congratulating Dissanayake on being elected as the new President of Sri Lanka, minister Rajeeve said when he visited Kerala, discussions were held about the potential for industrial cooperation between
Kerala and Sri Lanka.
"As part of this, he visited places including Technopark. He had indicated that there is significant potential for Kerala's own ayurveda in Sri Lanka. At this stage, we hope that further cooperation can be ensured through friendly discussions," the minister said.
While interacting with the IT professionals at the Technopark during his visit, Dissanayake had said that India plays a major role in the global IT industry and hence a collaboration and understanding with India is going to benefit Sri Lanka in building its IT ecosystem.
