Two drown while bathing in canals in Trichy

Trichy: Two people, including a boy, drowned in separate incident in Trichy on Sunday.
S Ramkumar, 13, from Thudaiyur near Mannachanallur died, a Class VIII student of a govt school went to the Ayyan canal in Thiruvasi to take bath on Sunday evening.
He jumped into the river from an iron bridge across the canal. Unfortunately, he hit a stone at the bottom of the canal.As he hit his head, he fainted in the water. He was swept away but the locals rescued him and rushed him to the govt hospital in Srirangam where the doctors declared him dead. The Vathalai police booked a case of unnatural death due to drowning.
In another incident, S Karthik, 28, from South Muthuraja Street in Puthur went to the trough bridge across Uyyakondan canal at Kuzhumikarai in the city on Sunday evening, to bathe. However, he got stuck between the shutter. Fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued him but he was dead. He is survived by his wife and a girl child. The govt hospital police booked a case of unnatural death due to drowning.
