Police said the youth had brought liquor and a charcoal stove to their room.
They consumed liquor and cooked barbeque chicken but left the stove burning as it was cold inside the room. Police said Sivasankar and Sivaraj later went to sleep in their room. When they returned on Saturday morning, they found Anand and Jeyakannan lying unconscious. They immediately called 108 ambulance services. However, paramedical personnel who rushed to the spot declared Anand and Jeyakannan dead. Kodaikanal police registered a case and are investigating.
Police suspect that the two youth inhaled smoke from the burning charcoal and died of asphyxiation. The bodies were recovered and sent for postmortem.
