Varanasi: In a grand ceremony held at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University,Jaunpur , Governor
Anandiben Patel conferred degrees and gold medals to meritorious students and researchers on Sunday. A total of 95 meritorious students received 96 gold medals, while 508 researchers were awarded PhD degrees during the 28th convocation ceremony of the university.
In her address, the Governor said that there is no lack of talent in the state's universities, but there is a need to inspire and channelise it positively.
She highlighted the significant progress made by the universities in the state, citing the achievement of A++ grade by seven state universities and one agricultural university, made possible through the mandatory NAAC evaluation and support from Raj Bhavan. She highlighted the benefits of NAAC evaluation, including financial grants of 100 crore rupees for A++ universities and 20 crore rupees for others. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of NIRF rankings in attracting international and meritorious students.
Speaking on the occasion, UP higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay urged educational institutions to become centers of research and innovation, while minister of state for higher education Rajni Tiwari encouraged graduates to take on societal and national responsibilities and contribute to making India a global leader.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Vandana Singh highlighted the significant changes and improvements in higher education under the Chancellor's guidance.
The ceremony began with a procession led by registrar Mahendra Kumar, followed by various dignitaries. Prof. Manoj Mishra and Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh conducted the event. A tree-planting program was also organized as part of the convocation ceremony.
The Governor also launched the university's annual magazine, 'Gatiman,' and distributed gifts among students from Class 5 to Class 8. She also awarded prizes to winners of sports competitions held in adopted villages. Winners of various competitions held in adopted villages were also awarded. Besides, the Governor handed out kits to 300 Anganwadi centers.
