VARANASI: Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith is going to organise its 46th convocation in the Gandhi Study Auditorium on Wednesday. A total of 97,350 degrees will be awarded, including 47,104 to male and 50,246 to female students. The rehearsal for the convocation was held on Tuesday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anand Kumar Tyagi, said that this year's convocation will be themed "Triveni Sangam," focusing on the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, and Dr.
Bhimrao Ambedkar, as the university has always been a proponent of non-violence, social harmony, and resource accessibility for the last person in society.
The VC said that a souvenir based on the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar will be released during the convocation.
According to him, the Gold medals will be awarded to seven undergraduate students, including two male and five female, and nine postgraduate students, including three male and six female students.
Additionally, two outstanding athletes, Saurabh Kumar Yadav in kickboxing and Akanksha Verma in karate, will receive medals. Degrees will be conferred to 78,196 undergraduates (41,474 male and 36,722 female), 19,056 postgraduates (5,577 male and 13,479 female), and 98 Ph.D. (53 male and 45 female) students. In total, 97,350 degrees will be awarded, including 47,104 to male and 50,246 to female students.
The VC stated that the 46th convocation ceremony will be presided over by the UP Governor and Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith,
Anandiben Patel. R.K. Tyagi, CMD of Power Grid Corporation of India, New Delhi, Yogendra Upadhyay, UP Minister for Higher Education, and Rajni Tiwari, State Minister for Higher Education, will attend the convocation.
He said that 200 kits will be distributed to various Anganwadi centres during the convocation, with 100 kits provided by the university and 100 by the Sonbhadra District Magistrate. The top three Anganwadi workers from Varanasi and Sonbhadra districts will also be honoured on the occasion. Additionally, the Governor will honour 36 winners of drawing, storytelling, and speech competitions held in primary, composite, junior high, and inter colleges of five villages in Varanasi district.
The VC said that as part of the convocation festival, various competitions and events were held from September 20 to 23, including speech competitions on "Cleanliness of Nature and Character," drawing competitions on "Gandhi, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar," and essay writing competitions. The Fine Arts Department organised a painting workshop, and the Performing Arts Department hosted folk songs and street play programmes.
