TIRUPATI: Unidentified miscreants set ablaze a wooden chariot at Lord Rama temple in Hanakanahal village in Kanekal mandal, Anantapur district past midnight on Monday.
Local residents who noticed the fire at the chariot shelter informed the local police and fire services personnel. Hours later, the fire was brought under control.
The chariot was partly burnt down in the incident, sparking outrage among the locals on Tuesday.

Kalyandurg DSP Ravi Babu rushed to Hanakanahal village and inspected the chariot that was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants. He also enquired about the incident with the local villagers.
Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who learnt about the incident, directed the Anantapur district collector and SP to reach the village and launch a thorough investigation into the incident.
He also directed the officials to regularly update him on the progress of the investigation and arrest those responsible for the incident at the earliest.
