Struggling with Delhi traffic and surviving ‘Michelin star’ fried rice in a Delhi hotel, stand-up comic Nigel NG aka Uncle Roger finally met his Indian nephews and nieces (as he calls his fans) in the city on Saturday. The stand-up comic from Malaysia, who now lives in LA, is known for his online persona – Uncle Roger, and often critiques people’s attempts at cooking Asian food.
‘I WENT TO SEE THE TAJ MAHAL BUT PEOPLE KEPT BOASTING ABOUT THE NEW HIGHWAY’
When a few front-row guests arrived late for the show, Uncle Roger asked them, “Why are you late?” and continued, “This city is always late, I am surprised that you guys are actually here (to the guests who came on time.) Everybody is at least one hour late in this city and they give this excuse - stuck in traffic.

Every day, you are stuck in traffic.” Commenting on the reckless drivers of the city, he said, “When I landed here, I asked my driver to drive carefully and he said when we drive in Delhi, we have three Gs - good brakes, good horn and good luck.” Nigel added, “I went to see the Taj Mahal and also went to Jaipur, but every time I tell people about these places that I am travelling to, you know what they are most excited about? ‘The new highway’. They are like, ‘We got this new highway – Delhi to Mumbai in 12 hours only’ (laughs).”
"I went full time standup in September 2019, six months before COVID, terrible timing I know. I started experimenting and then Uncle Roger took off so thank you for the love on the videos," he said during his set

‘I LOVE INDIAN FOOD AND I CAN HANDLE MY SPICE'
Since he is here for his debut show, Nigel has been trying different things – trying to eat out and getting to see the touristy places. “I love Indian food and I can handle my spice since I am from Malaysia. I tell people here to ‘make it spicy’ but they never make it spicy. They just look at me and nod their head but never make it spicy. But since I am here, I am going to try chhole bhature,” he said.
