The Kamakshipalya police had filed a 3,991 page charge sheet against the arrested on September 4. Now his legal council has filed a bailed application for Darshan while the bail application for the other 16 accused has been rejected.
Earlier in August, the actor was transferred from Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Prison to Ballari Prison after a video went viral on social media. In the video Darshan was seen enjoying VIP treatment, having a cup of coffee and cigarettes sitting with others. An outrage led on social media where netizens were seen questioning the authorities regarding the treatment given to the actor for such a gruesome actor.

For the unversed, it is said that the victim Renukaswamy allegedly used to send Pavithra derogatory messages on social media suggesting she ruined Darshan's married life. This did not seem well with Darshan, who later orchestrated the murder. He allegedly sent his other group members to call the victim saying that Darshan wanted to meet him in his farmhouse, where they tortured and killed him.
Additionally, Darshan in his statement to the police confessed to having beaten the victim at the shed but claimed he was not there when he died. He also confessed that he suggested Pavithra beat him with her slipper.
