The Las Vegas Raiders, led by Antonio Pierce, are set to face the Carolina Panthers in their home opener, having won a road game over the Baltimore Ravens. Carolina, benched quarterback Bryce Young, faced Southern Nevada with a 0-2 record and last in points scored and allowed, outscored by a combined 60 points in the first two weeks of the season. After a 36-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders coach criticized his team's players for giving up during the game, referring to the loss as an embarrassing blow for the NFC South team.

Antonio Pierce expressed his dissatisfaction with the Las Vegas Raiders' performance, questioning some of their players' persistence in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers, suggesting potential future consequences. "As the game went on … there were definitely some individuals made business decisions," Pierce said in a postgame news conference, noting his belief that his team didn't "show up" Sunday. "And we’ll make business decisions going forward, as well.”
The Raiders suffered a significant setback after Andy Dalton became the first
NFL quarterback to throw over 300 yards and three touchdowns in a single game, replacing benched 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. Fans booed the team's offense, which managed just seven points in their first home game at Allegiant Stadium. "I would have booed us, too," said Pierce.
NFL fans speculate that Pierce's criticism may have been directed at star receiver Davante Adams, who was seen frustrated on the bench during the loss, as Adams finished with just four catches for 40 yards. The Raiders' quarterback Gardner Minshew struggled with 214 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, but their defense let them down. The Panthers' well-oiled offense allowed Andy Dalton to throw for over 300 yards and Chuba Hubbard to rush for over 100 yards, allowing the Raiders to lose.
Pierce previously served as the linebackers coach for the Raiders from 2022 to 2023. He played nine seasons as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) and he won a Super Bowl playing with the New York Giants in the 2007 season. He played college football for the Arizona Wildcats and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Redskins, and later played for the Giants. In 2014, Pierce began his coaching career as the head coach at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and then served as an assistant coach at Arizona State University from 2018 to 2021.
