Southwest monsoon has advanced into most parts of southern Karnataka, including Bengaluru, according to the latest observation from India Meteorological Department (IMD).
While IMD confirmed the thundershowers that lashed Bengaluru and other parts of south Karnataka on Saturday as monsoon rain, downpour across Bengaluru on Sunday led to waterlogging at 58 locations.
As many as 206 trees were uprooted while branches fell at 41 locations in Karnataka and water entered several houses in low-lying areas at night.
A tree branch fell on the viaduct of the Namma Metro Purple Line tracks between MG Road station and Trinity, leading to the suspension of operations between Indiranagar and MG Road.
Bengaluru Urban district received 103.5mm rain till 10.30pm on Sunday, as per IMD’s Automated Weather System.
Bengaluru witnessed severe traffic congestion on various key roads, such as the ones leading to Kempegowda International Airport, as reported by the traffic police.
In its forecast mid-Sunday, IMD said Bengaluru can expect “generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershowers over the next 48 hours”, while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 30°C and 20°C, respectively.
The monsoon is expected to advance further into central Karnataka over the next 2-3 days, with most districts likely to experience light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers.
