BENGALURU: Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara reported on Monday that police have gathered substantial information regarding the murder of a woman whose body parts were found in a fridge at her Bengaluru residence. The police suspect a man from West Bengal might be involved but need more evidence to confirm his role.
"The police have collected a lot of information, a lot of clues.
One individual is also been...kind of they say he is the one. Unless we collect more information we can't really say. He is from West Bengal they say," Parameshwara stated.
The incident involved a 29-year-old woman, identified as Mahalakshmi, whose dismembered body was discovered in a fridge at her home in Vinayaka Nagar, Vyalikaval on Saturday. She had been living alone in the rented house for the past five months. The body parts were highly decomposed, suggesting the murder might have occurred around two weeks ago.
Addressing women's safety in Bengaluru, Parameshwara mentioned, "We have already taken a lot of precautions for women's safety in Bengaluru. We are very careful about it. We have installed CCTV where lot of women go. These kinds of steps we have taken."
The incident led to the BJP criticizing the Congress-led Karnataka government. The BJP's official handle for Karnataka posted on X, "Under @INCKarnataka rule, appeasement policies have led to a complete collapse of law and order. The brutal murder of Mahalakshmi by Ashraf is a clear reminder that Kannadigas are no longer safe in this Hitler-led @siddaramaiah government."
