The blaze erupted at around 10 am on the 5th floor of the Vallabh Bhavan at old secretariat building, on Saturday morning.
Around 40 fire tenders pressed into service to douse the flames, but only one managed to reach its hose up to the fifth floor, highlighting the challenging firefighting conditions.

According to sources, Vallabh Bhavan (old secretariat building) housed the chief minister's office and other ministers' offices till 2019, and thereafter, the new Vallabh Bhawan was in use. Sources said old documents were stored on the 5th floor. Secretariat officials are trying to figure out the damage caused due to the fire.
