Chandigarh: A prosecution witness, Khem Pal, was examined on Monday in connection with the 2015
murder of national-level shooter and lawyer Sippy Sidhu.
Pal reportedly purchased the car, belonging to Kalyani Singh's father. The car is believed to have been used in the crime. Sippy Sidhu, a national-level shooter and lawyer, was shot dead in Sector 27 on Sept 20, 2015.
His family accused Kalyani Singh of the murder, allegedly after her marriage proposal was rejected. Sippy Sidhu was the grandson of the late Justice SS Sidhu, a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Kalyani Singh is the daughter of retired Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Sabina.
While the exact statement is unavailable and the order copy was still awaited as of 9 pm, in the challan copy, Khem Pal said that in 2019, he was interested in buying a second-hand vehicle and learned about a market in Chandigarh for such transactions held every Sunday.
In December 2019, he went to Sector 7 and met with representatives from TK Cars, where he selected an Alto K10. According to the registration certificate (RC), the vehicle belonged to Palwinder Singh. After choosing the car, Khempal paid ₹2,35,000 in cash and took possession of it. He confirmed that the car remains in his possession to date.
He also stated that he had handed over the car to the authorities, who later returned it to him under "supurdari" (custody), with instructions to present it in court or to the CBI as required.
The next hearing is scheduled for 24-09-2024.
