Chandigarh: The monthly general house meeting of the MC, scheduled on Thursday, has only two developmental agendas items up for discussion, and their subsequent approval. The two developmental agendas finalized are linked to proposal for work of construction of pedestrian path with PCC tiles on internal roads and Rehabilitation of EWS (Economic Weaker Section) Colony of 8,448 flats, and a proposal for the work for upgradation of a stadium in Khuda Alisher, UT Chandigarh.
The cost of the work of EWS Colony of Dhanas is around Rs 1.77 crore, while a rough cost estimate of Rs 1.75 crore has been prepared for the upgradation of Khuda Alisher Stadium.
“As per laid down norms, the concerned branch of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, has to provide the main copy of the agenda items before 72 hours of the general house meeting to all members of the house,” sources said. However, as the MC has been passing through an acute financial crunch, fresh developmental works have come to an halt. Sources in the MC confirmed that hundreds of the agenda items, approved in the last four to five general house meetings, are still waiting for administrative approvals of the commissioner.
Sources in the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, revealed that the authority has been preparing a separate copy of supplementary agendas, which will be finalized in a day or two, before the general house meeting scheduled on Thursday. This supplementary agenda copy will have around a dozen agenda items, but it is unclear when the work will actually start.
