Locally made rockets, mortars among arms seized by Army and Manipur Police

A large cache of illegal arms, including locally fabricated rockets and mortars, was seized by the Army and Manipur Police in Churachandpur, Thoubal, and Imphal East districts. These intelligence-based operations aim to demilitarize the local population as part of ongoing peace efforts in the region.

GUWAHATI: A huge cache of illegal arms, including locally fabricated rockets and mortars, besides other war-like stores were seized in Churachandpur, fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts on Friday.
The recoveries were made by the Army, along with Manipur Police, during stepped up intelligence-based operations.
Defence ministry PRO and spokesperson for Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh said these operations underscore the Indian Army’s ongoing peace efforts in the region, “with the demilitarisation of the local population as a primary objective.”
In the first operation, a combined team of Army and Churachandpur police carried out a search in the heavily forested upper reaches of Thangjing ridge in Churachandpur and recovered two 9mm pistols along with two pistol magazines, a single-barrel rifle, two locally fabricated rockets measuring 5.5ft and 3ft respectively, a modified long-range mortar, two modified medium-range mortars, four mortar bombs, nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, 6.2kg of Grade II explosives, and war-like stores.

In another operation, a team of Army and Manipur Police carried out a search at Changbi village, in the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts, which resulted in the recovery of two carbine machine guns, two pistols, a single-barrel gun, nine hand grenades, eleven rounds of small arms ammunition and other war-like stores.
