The two men entered the well for repair work on Tuesday morning. When they didn't come out for long, villagers informed the police. With the fire department's help, they were pulled out and rushed to the hospital where doctors declared them dead."
Bulandshahr's district magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh told TOI that UP CM Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the incident and has ordered help for the affected families.
"Senior police and administrative officials reached the spot. Prima facie, it appears that the two men had died of suffocation after inhaling poisonous gas inside the well. UP CM has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs each to the affected families," said Singh.
Villagers said that they were not provided with safety aids before entering the well. DM Singh informed that a probe has been launched to find out other technical issues. "We found that they had been working as labourers for the past 8-10 years and were looking after the borewell and other farming-related works in the area. Further probe is underway," he added.
