Raipur: On Monday morning, eighteen stray cattle were killed after being struck by a heavy vehicle on the Darrighat-Korba National Highway in the Masturi police station area of Bilaspur. A truck reportedly hit the herd of cattle that was roaming on the highway, leaving a dozen cows injured.
Villagers immediately informed the Masturi police, prompting a crowd to gather at the scene.
The injured cattle were sent for treatment. The Masturi police were investigating the incident using nearby CCTV footage.
The Chhattisgarh high court has previously addressed the issue of stray cattle as a growing concern for public safety, the safety of the cattle and exacerbating road accidents. In various orders, the court has emphasised the responsibility of local authorities to manage and prevent the menace of stray cattle.
