Shillong: Rain brought respite to the state capital and other locations on Monday as the mercury plummeted after several days of sweltering heat.
Intermittent light showers helped cool the air after persistent high temperatures were recorded over the past few days.

According to data from the meteorological centre in Upper Shillong, temperature came down to 22.5 degrees Celsius from a record high of 29.9 degrees Celsius in the hill city and its surroundings after a refreshing spell of rain in the afternoon.
An official in the met office said the coming days would be cooler as intermittent rainfall is expected.
The maximum temperature recorded in the city on Sunday was 29.9 degrees Celsius, 6.4 degrees more than normal, which was one of the highest in decades, reports Manosh Das.
