This is the story of Riyazuddin A, a software engineer, who took up the job of a delivery partner at Swiggy after he was laid off from his previous job. His awe-inspiring story came to light after his LinkedIn post went viral, where he shared his tough journey. In the post titled, “A Journey of Resilience: My Farewell to Swiggy”, Riyazuddin thanked the online food ordering and delivery company-Swiggy, for helping him get through the tough times in his life.
Riyazuddin had a good job, when he was suddenly laid off.
This event was stressful and unexpected. He tried applying for jobs but was rejected from multiple places. In his post he explains, “With rejections piling up and bills to pay, I found myself in a difficult financial position.” With nothing working in his favor he decided to become a Swiggy delivery partner, delivering orders for the company.
While this job was humbling, it helped Riyazuddin to meet some of his financial needs. He writes, “I still remember those early morning rides, the blazing afternoon sun, the pouring rain, and those late-night deliveries. Each delivery wasn’t just about the earnings, it was a step forward in reclaiming my resilience.”
To his skillset, that included proficiency in programming language Python, Riyazuddin has added skills that are invaluable. “... those months as a Swiggy delivery partner gave me more than just financial support; they gave me invaluable lessons in patience, persistence, and humility,” says Riyazuddin. Each delivery order, he simultaneously carried the balm of hope and the burden of rejection with himself.
But these days of sorrow didn’t last long, and he finally got a job at a new company. In his post he expresses his immense gratefulness towards Swiggy that helped him pull through difficult times. “I owe a lot to those tough, heartful memories of the streets, the customers, and the support Swiggy provided when I needed it most.”

Towards the end of his post, Riyazuddin advises people who are going through tough times, to “..hang in there. Sometimes, life’s unexpected detours lead us to places of growth and strength we never imagined.”
The food delivery companies have made life so easy, with just a click we can order from our favorite restaurants, anytime, anywhere and in any weather. But while we get our food delivered to us piping hot without even going out, we should not forget that someone else is making that possible for us. A delivery partner closes that distance between you and your favourite food or restaurant. So, maybe next time you order food, tip them or at least thank them for their service. A little practice in gratitude harms no one.
