Airfield police station inspector in-charge Sashikanta Rout said they escorted the students from Bihar to the railway station at night. “They boarded trains and went home. Odisha students were also asked to leave the campus immediately,” he added.
Police were present on the campus till Sunday morning. “We are investigating the matter,” said Rout. “Local police controlled the situation before it took a turn for the worse. Keeping the situation in mind, we declared the college closed sine die for an indefinite period,” said an official. Police sources said most of the students involved in the clash are in the first year of the diploma programme.
A few of them are from the second year. Two days ago, a student of one group had a heated exchange with a boy from the other group. Police said the two groups clashed over a girl. “A student of one group did not like a girl mingling with a boy from the other group. It sparked the clash,” said a student.
