JAIPUR: The state govt is working on developing its own portal for installing high security registration plates (HSRP) on vehicles across
Rajasthan. Officials said the new portal is being developed since the existing process routed through the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) portal has led to delays in installing new registration plates.
Transport department officials said a proposal has been prepared regarding this and a few companies have given presentations on how the portal will work.
Last month, transport minister Prem Chand Bairwa was shown some of these presentations by companies that will work with the department to develop the portal.
“The new portal is being developed as per the instructions of the transport minister so residents can get high security registration plates installed faster. Through the SIAM portal, residents are getting late appointments,” a senior official said.
Officials said a proposal was sent to the finance department regarding the project after which it has sent back queries to transport department.
“We are checking the details and finance department queries. After assessing it, further action will be taken,” the official added.
On July 31, the transport department extended the deadline for installing HSRP on vehicles in Rajasthan to Aug 10. This was the second extension of date by the transport department. According to the original order, vehicle owners were required to install HSRPs by June 30. This was then extended to July 31 and finally to Aug 10.
Failure to affix HSRP will attract a fine of Rs 5,000 for four wheelers for the first time and thereafter Rs 10,000 while for two wheelers the first fine will be of Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 thereafter, if the registration plates are not installed on time. According to transport department data, over 29 lakh vehicles, registered before April 1, 2019, in Rajasthan have still not applied for HSRP.
Old vehicles registered before Apr 1, 2019, are required to change their registration plates to the HSRP.
Officials said that vehicles purchased between 2009 and Apr 2019 will have to get these number plates installed.
