Madurai: An 84-year-old ex-serviceman murdered his 76-year-old wife after a quarrel late on Saturday, at Aralvaimozhi in Kanyakumari district. Police identified the accused as Sam Alexander, a resident of Seethapal, and his wife as Rosalin Flora, a retired teacher.
Police said Sam Alexander, a retired army man, and his wife were living in the ground floor of their house.
The couple have a son and daughter who are married and settled in the US. Their son-in-law Ranjith resides on the first floor of the house.
Alexander used to consume alcohol, which led to frequent quarrel between the couple. However, on Saturday night, things went out of control when an angry Alexander slit Flora's throat, leaving her dead in a pool of blood.
Police said Ranjith found his mother-in-law murdered in the house only on Sunday morning. He immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot and sent her body to the govt hospital for postmortem. Aralvaimozhi police registered a case and arrested Alexander. Further investigation is on.
